Behind on ACCRT

Hi all,

This is going to be short and sweet. I’m falling behind on my blogging over this trip. It’s been very long days and I just don’t have the energy to blog by the end of the night.

The trip is awesome and we’re getting to see so much of the country. We arrive in Calgary tomorrow and once things settle down I promise to catch up on my blogging and the rest of my trip. I have tons of beautiful pictures I want to share with everyone.

We will get our apartment tomorrow evening but I’m not sure when we will be getting internet access. I’ll definitely be making a few trips to Starbucks next week to get in some blogging time.

If you don’t see any posts from me in the next couple of days don’t fret I will be back! I promise!

I have lots of exciting things coming up in the next week or so including:

  • The end of our road trip
  • My first giveaway
  • Our new apartment
  • Learning about a new city
  • A review of some nutritional bars

Thanks for hanging in there everyone in this crazy time and I’ll be in contact soon.

Don’t forget you can follow me on twitter and following my traveling updates under #soon2bYYCblogger.

ACCRT Day 3

Evening bloggies. I hope everyone had a good hump day.

I’m a day behind on blogging and I will probably only get one post in tonight as well. They’ve been very long days and I just don’t have the energy to write two posts.

Before I get started a couple of people asked about how my GPS knew about about the traffic problems in Montreal in yesterday’s post. Our GPS came with a FM receiver and when we’re in major cities it picks up traffic updates and plans routes accordingly. It’s actually a pretty cool feature. When we got the GPS last week we didn’t think the traffic feature would be that useful but so far the Garmin is proving us wrong.

Breakfast on Tuesday was from Tim Horton’s – a blueberry muffin and oj (un-pictured).

Day 3 started out with great intentions. We got up very early in order to get an early start. Unfortunately as soon as we got in the car we knew something was wrong with the brakes. We stopped at the closest repair shop – Speedy – and waited 3 hours to get new rear brakes. To add insult to injury, one of the callipers was seized and had to be replaced as well. We sat around for almost 3 hours waiting for everything to get fixed before we could hit the road.

This didn’t put us on the road until after 10 and we knew we had a 10 hour drive ahead of us on a very hot day. We planned ahead this time and bought some ice for the cooler so Charlie had a place to stay cool and be happy.

July 221

Since we were leaving from Ottawa and heading to Sault Ste. Marie we were driving through central Ontario. It was a long, painful and very hot day.

Around lunch time we were starving and had no idea where to stop. We found a small town – Pembroke and decided to stop at Subway for lunch. As we pulled into the Subway we saw a sign on the door that said, ‘Coming Soon’. SERIOUSLY!!! We didn’t have many options so Wendy’s it was.

I got a single hamburger with bacon.

 July 190

Fries – I only ate about a quarter of them.

July 188

And an ice-tea – what’s with medium drink? Mediums are not this big in Halifax!

July 189

Some point in the afternoon we stopped at Tim’s again and this time I grabbed and ice-capp with chocolate milk. I forgot to take a before shot so I figured an after shot would work as well :P

July 219

During this drive the majority of the highways were not divided and there were many people travelling very slow. We did encounter some beautiful scenery though.

Here are some of the pictures.

After a very hot and sticky day we made it to Sault Ste. Marie. The days are becoming more painful (physically) so we decided not to stop for dinner and we went for the last 4 hours without stopping. We figured we’d grab something when we got to town.

Dinner was Subway! After the lack of subs for lunch we decided to grab some for dinner. I was starving by this point and decided to go with a footlong turkey with bacon.

I’m now sitting in the hotel room in Thunder Bay watching SYTYCD. We have another long drive tomorrow to Winnipeg.

Stay tuned for an update on the trip from Sault Ste. Marie to Thunder Bay tomorrow.

ACCRT Day 2

Sorry for the lack of blogging yesterday everyone. We were very tired when we got back to the hotel last night and weren’t able to stay up to blog so I’m going to catch up right now.

Before we left we grabbed the continental breakfast at the hotel. I opted for a bowl of fruit salad and a blueberry muffin with a glass of oj.

On Monday morning we got up around 7 for what we thought would be a rather short and uneventful trip to Ottawa. We thought we’d hit some of the traffic in Montreal but other than that we thought it would a pretty good day. Boy were we wrong. It started first by us getting a little lost trying to get out of Riviere du Loup and then we had difficulty finding a gas station so all in all we were running behind by an hour.

The rest of the morning didn’t go as planned as well. The kitty (even though he wasn’t in the cage) cried for about 3 hours until we stopped for lunch.

My mid-morning snack wasn’t very healthy either. From Tim’s – peach juice

July 038

And a donut. I can’t even remember the last time I had a donut.

July 039

Lunch was a little better. Subway.

July 046

And a Kashi bar.

July 049

After lunch Charlie found our cooler and pushed it open and climbed in. He was happy for the rest of the trip.

July 044

Some other problems we had were that the roads in Quebec were horrible and the drivers were terrible.

Here are some pictures from the first part of the morning.

Around 2 we were driving into Montreal and our GPS told us that there was traffic up ahead so it was re-calculating a new route for us. This new route ended up taking us through downtown Montreal and under the city going about 100 km/hr under the city in the tunnel.

Just after leaving Montreal we hit the Quebec/Ontario border.

July 079

We hit Ottawa around 4:30, showered, changed and walked down to the parliament buildings to try and make a tour. The tour took about and hour and was very cool. We got some pretty cool pics as well.

After all the walking around we headed out for dinner. We stopped at a Scottish pub.

July 177

We started with the roasted garlic cheese wedges. (Yes that is roasted garlic right on the bread – NOM).

July 179

Then I opted for a cheese pizza (do you notice the theme here?)

July 182

So yummy!!!

By the time we got back to the hotel I was exhausted and wasn’t able to blog so I just headed to bed. Overall, it started out as a pretty long day but it turned out great in the end.

I’m a day behind on my blogging but I will try to catch up tomorrow and write two posts. I hope everyone is enjoying the cross Canada updates and pictures.
