Being Positive

Yesterday started out with such good intentions. Healthy eating, hitting up another yoga class and maybe even going for an evening run with the hubby. Unfortunately, most of that didn’t happen.

If you read yesterday’s post you would know that it was looking very grim on the job prospects yesterday. I was suppose to hear by noon and lunch time rolled around…nothing, 1pm rolled around…nothing, 2pm the same, and by 3pm I decided to make a follow up call to let her know that I was still interested.

First you might be wondering why I was so interested since I didn’t even know if I wanted the job. After spending a lot of time thinking it over I had decided that I would take the job if it was offered to me. Although it was something that I hadn’t thought I wanted I realized that sometimes life isn’t exactly as you pictured it and I thought I might really enjoy it.

Unfortunately, I didn’t hear back from her yesterday and when I finally her from her today I didn’t get the job. Now I’m actually ok with it. It was my first interview since arriving in Calgary and I know that it just wasn’t the job for me. Something better is going to come along and I just need to be patent. I’m going to look at this as something positive not something negative.

Now that’s over, onto some food porn.

Breakfast: a whole wheat sandwich thin – 1/2 with pb and 1/2 with light laughing cow cheese.

September 021

Lunch was very tasty: sandwich on a whole wheat sandwich thin with mozza, turkey and spinach.

September 002

Sweet potato cut into fries, cooked in the oven with a little EVOO, salt and ground pepper.

September 003

Both served with some baby tomatoes.

September 001

Later the hubby and I headed out to run a few errands. Before we left I had a quick snack – banana and chocolate dreams pb.

September 004

Yummy, oogy, gooey pb.

September 006

After we got back I was tired and didn’t feel like cooking much. Dinner was pizza with pineapple and ham.

September 009

Served with some green beans.

September 008

All together.

September 007

I bet your like now…that wasn’t such a bad day and really your right if only I had stopped at 2 slices of pizza – no such luck. A ended up eating a few more slices…

Well today’s a new day and tomorrow I will have lots of yummy eats and a new yoga class to share with you all!

Being Healthy on a Field Trip

So I’m blogging early tonight. Dinner was finished early so I figured I’d write a quick post.

Matt is still quite sick and didn’t sleep much last night so that meant I didn’t sleep much either. I wouldn’t have gone to work today but we were taking out kids on a field trip so I didn’t have much of a choice.

This meant that this morning started with coffee. A Grande Non-Fat Hazelnut Latte to be exact…

June 002

And a Low-Fat Banana Chocolate Chip Loaf…

June 003

We were taking 16 girls to Daplex (a sports facility here in Halifax) for the morning and bowling after lunch.

I planned ahead and threw my second Kardea bar in my purse before I left. Around the middle of the morning I grabbed the bar and a bottle of water for a snack.

June 007

This one was pretty good – I liked the lemon flavour better and thought this one could have used some more cranberries but it was a great mid-morning snack.

At lunch I was craving ice-cream but I decided to go the healthy route and I went for another Hummus and Veggie wrap with a side fruit salad for dessert and a bottle of water from Healthy Way. I felt great afterwards. I’m so happy I went for the healthier choice.

On my wayt home I knew I wanted something easy and simple. I was so tired and I just couldn’t bring myself to cook. On my way home I stopped at Sobey’s and grabbed a fresh pizza from their deli.

I had two three slices…

June 007

I probably didn’t need the third slice but I was hungry and tired and gave in to the deliciousness of it.

Yesterday I picked up these…

June 009

I had a handful for dessert…

June 011

Overall, it was a pretty good day of eats. Especially being out and about with no plan.

My Water and Yoga Challenge Update:

  • Water: I’ve been doing great with water. I stuck to water all day and in total I drank about 3 liters today so far. I’ve been getting in at least 2 liters a day so I’m happy with this progress. Thanks for reminders on twitter #projecthydrate #waterlogged. Keep ‘em coming!
  • Yoga: I’ve only gotten in two yoga sessions since I started my challenge. Since the hubby got sick I haven’t done any yoga. I’m hopping maybe to get a session in tonight during the hockey game.

Just in case you missed it check out yesterday’s post on my Recent News. Lots of exciting things going on right now.

Sizzlin’ in the Sun

Happy Saturday Everyone. It’s the last weekend in May and Matt and I decided to chill and do nothing this weekend. We have lots going throughout the weekends in June so we figured we relax and not really make too many plans.

I got up around 9:30 and was craving pancakes so I grabbed the organic pancake mix I had in the cupboard and started mixing.

May 002

I mixed the mix with one egg and some skim milk (since I’m currently out of Almond Milk – I must pick some up tomorrow) and a splash of water.

May 001

Matt was having eggs so I just made three pancakes for myself.

May 003

I topped them with fresh strawberries and some maple syrup.

May 004

Perfect Saturday morning breakfast.

After breakfast Matt and I headed out to run some errands and get some groceries. We were going to hand to the gym after lunch. On our way to the grocery store we decided to skip the gym and go for a long walk on the waterfront since it was +22 out.

We walked for a while when we decided to grab some lunch. We stopped at Hart & Thistle right on the water and sat outside on the patio and enjoyed some lunch. We both got fish and chips but I got mine with sweet potato fries. The food there was great. I’d definitely recommend it.

While we were sitting there I realized that I had a strapless shirt on and no sunscreen. I could feel myself getting burnt.

OH CRAP!

I was a lobster by the time we got home.

May 010

I’m so sore now.

May 011

After I finished writing this post I’m going to go have a cold shower then get Matt to rub some aloe on it. I need to remember my sunscreen when I’m going out.

After we got home from the walk we played Mario on the Wii for a while – had a couple of beers (well Matt had beer I had some Mike’s that were in the fridge). We must be careful Mario Wii could cause a divorce – I’m kidding but seriously that game is very stressful :P

Dinner we decided to make a homemade pizza.

We picked up a thin crust at the superstore today and added some low cal pizza sauce.

May 005

Then added some chicken.

May 006

Turkey bacon and ground turkey.

May 007

Matt put some green pepper and red onion on his side of the pizza (if you’ve read my blog before you know that I just don’t like veggies on my pizza).

May 008

And some mozza.

May 009

Cooked in the oven for 8 mins and it turned out perfect.

May 012

I enjoyed two slices.

May 014

I’m currently blogging while the hockey game is on so I’d better say Go Hawks Go for the hubby – he is a huge Hawks fan – And they just scored.

GOOOOOAL!!!!!!

~ Katie :)

Who’s watching the Stanley Cups Finals? Who are you rooting for? Obviously since the hubby is a Hawks fan I’m rooting for Chicago.

Friday Food Issues

**TGIF**

I took quite a few pictures today…enjoy :)

I’m so excited it’s Friday. I have been looking forward to the weekend so much more then usual this week. So I’m celebrating with a glass of wine (more on that later)…

I woke up this morning sore and stiff and knew it was my body’s way of telling me that I needed a rest day. I’m already feeling better and stoked for the gym tomorrow.

Random Breakfast – banana and cheese string. It was another busy morning so breakfast on the go again.

During the day more of the same snacks. Kashi bar and cheese string. I know I’ve had these a lot this week. I’m a creature of habit what can I say. I’ll try to mix it up a little more next week.

March 003

I also was given a muffin for on the students. Blueberry cranberry muffin. Who can say no to a cute little 8 years old girl :)

March 001

Lunch was leftover pineapple chicken salsa wrap. This re-heated very nicely and was a great lunch. I also had a yogurt cup (unpictured).

 March 004 March 006 March 005

After lunch I was craving something sweet hardcore but since I was as school I just wasn’t able to give into this craving.

Once school was over I wanted to stop at Planet Organic to grab some Greek Yogurt before picking Matt up from work.

This was the beautiful weather us bloggers in NS got to enjoy…

March 011

I walk in with the intention of picking my my weekly supply of yogurt and ended up with a few other items.

Greek Yogurt and Liberte Coconut Yogurt…

March 014

Some Annie’s Cheddar Mac and Cheese…

March 013

And some Crofter’s Super Spread…

March 026

Europe to be exact. Black Currants, Pomegranates, Morello Cherries and Red Grapes.

March 022

Jaime has been blogging about this for weeks now and when I saw it I just knew I had to pick some up. The ingredients are amazing. None of the fake sugars just organic sugar kane. I can’t wait to try it. I see some oats in my future this weekend.

I was hungry so I also picked up one of these…

March 010

Honeybar Apple and Cinnamon. Lynn had a great giveaway a few weeks ago for some of these but this is the only one I could find that didn’t have peanuts so I pick it up (trying not to give in too much to my sweet craving). Overall, I quite enjoyed it. It was defiantly a nice change from my regular granola bar. My only complaint was that it was a little tough to chew. It made my jaw a little sore. My favourite part? The ingredients list. I know Lynn said this too. So few ingredients. I loved it.

March 008

Dinner was Sobey’s homemade pizza. Sounds pretty healthy right? Wrong! Greasy and dirty. I was so hungry I inhaled it before remembering to take pictures. I thought I’d have gotten use to this picture taking food thing but apparently not. Opps.

I just took a nice 30 min nap and now I’m enjoying a glass of this…

March 017

I didn’t realize this was the official wine of the Olympics…

March 019

Now I’m going to curl up with my wine and a book and enjoy some me time.

March 028

Enjoy your weekend.

~ Katie :)

Question: Does anyone else have a problem with healthy eating on Friday night. I find it my worst night for food. I think my problem it that it’s the end of a long week and I just don’t have the energy to cook.

A Quickie Post

Didn’t get to post yesterday. Spend most of the day away from the computer hanging out with my husband.

Here’s a quick recap of my day yesterday and today.

Woke up yesterday with a pounding headache so went back to bed and didn’t get up until almost noon. This basically through off my entire day of eating.

Once I finally got out of bed I grabbed my last granola bar (unpictured) and some hummus, mulitgrain tostitos and the last of the carrots and a large glass of water for lunch. Not much but wasn’t feeling too hungry.

March 001

March 005

Then Matt and I spent the afternoon shopping (I got a new pair of jeans) and visiting and just basically enjoying the beautiful weather we’re having here in Halifax.

By the time we got home we both were starving so we ordered pizza and garlic fingers. I know not very healthy but oh so yummy.

March 007

Then we curled up on the couch and had a little Academy Awards movie marathon. We watched The Hurt Locker and Up in the Air. I enjoyed both but defiantly liked Up in the Air better. I ♥ George Clooney.

This morning got up to meet the girls at Starbucks.

March 012

Lynn, Tasha, Angie and Jamie. Leslie also showed up later but we didn’t manage to get any pics with her. I had such a great time. Thanks girlies :)

Didn’t have time to eat so I got a grande, non-fat, carmeal macchiato and a lemon carnberry scone.

March 010 March 011

We spent 4 hours there so I ended up ordering a Passion Ice-Tea Lemonade as well (unpictured).

When I finally managed to get home I made a bagel with some peanut butter before hitting the gym.

First attempt. Burnt…

March 013

Much better…

March 015

With pb…

March 017

Then I hit the gym for a quick workout (since I missed yesterday’s due to my headache). I did 5 mins of incline walking to warm up then Winter Shape Up Week 2. I did all the same exercises except for the following changes:

Stationary Lunges 24lbs, 10 Girly Push Ups instead of Wall Push ups and Bicep Curls 20lbs.

I can feel myself getting stronger and I can’t wait to try week three on Monday.

Now going to have some dinner and chill for the rest of the evening. I can feel some leftover pizza in my future. I hope everyone is having a great weekend.
