The Return of Yoga

No blogging yesterday but I did have lots yummy eats and of course “The Return of Yoga”.

I woke up a little late yesterday so I didn’t want too much for breakfast since I was meeting the husband for an early lunch. While getting ready I had a piece of ancient grain toast topped with a slice of laughing cow cheese.

I was heading downtown to meet Matt for an early lunch but ended up arriving a little earlier then expected so I spent some time wondering around and looking in a few shops. I haven’t spend too much time in downtown since arriving in Calgary. I’ve driven down a few times to pick up Matt but not walking around. It was nice to get out and see some places.

After I met up with Matt for lunch we headed to the food court near his building. I wanted something relatively healthy in the mass of fast food joints so I choose Extreme Pita. I went with a grilled chicken pita with lettuce, cucumber, pineapple and cheese. It was delicious! I also got a drink from Jugo Juice. I went with Summer Strawberry. This has strawberries, peaches, apple juice and cranberry juice. All in all, it was a healthy, tasty lunch for a food court lunch.

After Matt headed back to work I got in the car and did a little exploring of the city. It was fun to see different parts of the city that I haven’t seen before. Then I headed home to get ready for yoga.

Since moving to Calgary I haven’t done any yoga. There are so yoga studios here that I want to try. Most of them offer an introductory week offer to try the studio out. First up: Try-Yoga Calgary.

According to their website: Try-Yoga Calgary is a hot yoga studio that offers hot yoga, yoga-core, advanced yoga, karma classes, family yoga, pre and post natal yoga and much more.

After browsing their website I found out that they have both hot and regular yoga and many other classes as well. They also offer great rates and a great introductory offer of two week of unlimited yoga for 30 dollars. They are also located 5 mins from my place.

My first class was going to be a Tri-Hot class: The beautiful class is practiced in a heated room allowing students to work with their flexibility, strength and balance, while the heat warms the muscles and helps to flush toxins from the body.

The class was awesome! Our instructor pushed us but also gave lots of alternatives to make it easier or more difficult so that no matter what level your at you would be able to participate. The room was also hot but not so hot that you couldn’t actually enjoy your practice. I can’t wait to go back today to try another class.

Before heading to yoga I wanted something light so I snacked on a banana with some dark chocolate dreams pb.

September 001

After yoga I went to pick Matt up from the office. I drank some coconut water while driving.

Once I got home it was time for dinner. Dinner started with a huge salad with lots of veggies: spinach, red, green and yellow peppers, cucumber, carrots, broccoli and snow peas along with some blueberries on top.

September 003

I topped the salad with some chicken and pineapple that I had set to marinate earlier in the day (marinade: soy sauce, honey, rice vinegar and fresh ginger). I cooked the chicken in the oven for 20 mins then topped the salad with a couple of pieces.

September 004

Finally I served some roasted baby potatoes along side it (red, yellow and purple potatoes cooked in the oven for 30 mins with garlic powder, onion salt, rosemary, basil and thyme).

September 006

Served together.

September 005

The salad was huge. I was able to finish mine along with a little of the husbands. I also finished most of the potatoes but just couldn’t finish the chicken.

Job Update: So I was suppose to hear this morning if I got the job I had been worried about during the last post. It’s now 11:35 and I still haven’t heard anything yet so I guess all the stress I was causing myself was for nothing. Now it’s time to wait and move on to the next job and hopefully I’ll hear something soon from one of the other two school boards that I’m still waiting to hear from.

Finally, Happy September 1st Everyone! Can you believe it’s September already? This summer was crazy, moving, job hunting and everything else but I love fall so I’m ready to bring out the sweaters and enjoy the cool crisp air.

Welcome to Calgary

I am so falling behind on my blogging this week. I’m trying to get the apartment unpacked, job hunt and get back to the gym and because of all this blogging has become second to real life.

I’ve been planning to do this post for a couple of days now. We’ve been in the apartment since Saturday (almost a week) and I still haven’t posted pictures. I figured we’d have a while before our stuff showed up so there was no rush - boy was I wrong. Our estimated delivery date was Friday (tomorrow) but I got a call two days ago (Tuesday) saying that they were hoping to deliver our stuff. Imagine my excitement. I was getting tired of sleeping on an air mattress and eating off the floor.

I quickly realized I didn’t have any pictures of our apartment ‘before’. So I ran around taking pictures quickly. Here’s the empty (well almost empty) apartment before our stuff arrived.

Kitchen:

All the sunlight that we have in this place caused for some dark pictures (don’t worry I’m not complaining).

Living Room:

Linen Closet with washer/dryer (one unit – which is pretty cool).

August 008

For some reason the bedroom picture turned out blurry.

Now this is what the apartment looked like after all of our stuff was dropped off.

As you can tell there’s a lot to do. Since taking (most) of those pictures the living room and kitchen have been unpacked so it’s a little more liveable. Today I’m going to tackle the hall (linen closet and front closet) and then only the bedroom will be left. I’m confident by the end of the weekend all the boxes will be gone.

As mentioned earlier in the post on of the reasons I’ve fallen behind on the blogging is my return to the gym. This also includes my return to healthy eating. I have been so excited to eat vegetables again!

Yesterday morning/afternoon was the last of the paper plates/glasses before unpacking my dishes.

Breakfast yesterday was Special K Strawberry Cereal with a glass of oj.

August 017

After breakfast I headed to Starbucks to use their internet to search for jobs. While there I had a non-fat vanilla latte and a low-fat banana chocolate chip loaf.

August 018

After spending a few hours job hunting I headed for the gym. This is the first time hitting the gym in weeks. When I got there I hopped on the treadmill and ran 2.5 km. I’m not going to lie. It was hard. The hardest I’ve had in a long time but it felt great to get back to the gym even if it was only for a short run.

After the gym I headed home for lunch. Veggies, hummus, cheese and crackers.

Veggies included cucumber, baby tomatoes and carrots along with some roasted garlic hummus.

August 023

And some cheese with multi-grain wheat thins.

August 024

After lunch I spend the afternoon unpacking the kitchen. I’m pleasantly surprised that I was able to get all of our stuff in there.

After Matt got home from work dinner was leftovers from the previous night. Lasagna with a whole wheat roll.

 August 025

And a side salad with spinach, carrots, baby tomatoes, cucumber, red and green peppers.

August 026

Overall, it’s been great to get back to a regular routine and I look forward to getting even more settled in my new city.

Stay tuned for my first giveaway! I will be posting it very soon.

I’m going to leave you with one more picture of Charlie. He seems to be enjoying the unpacking process as much as he enjoyed the packing process.

ACCRT Days 6 and 7

We are finally nearing the end of the road trip. It was long, exciting and very tiring. Day 6 was a short drive. Winnipeg to Regina. It was only about 5.5 hours so we decided to sleep in a bit and catch up on our rest.

Breakfast in Winnipeg was the first hot breakfast we had had since the trip had started. I had French Toast. I was wonderful but again I just couldn’t eat very much.

As the day went on things started to become flatter and flatter.

July 003

July 007

There was also MacDonald’s coffee this morning too – but just coffee.

July 008

More pictures…

July 025

July 040

We stopped in Brandon, Manitoba for lunch. I had a ceaser salad and chicken sandwich for lunch.

Heading into Saskatchewan is where we got some good pictures of how flat this area really is.

July 057

July 058

Around 2:00pm local time we finally hit the border.

July 059

While driving into Regina we hit a rain storm. We could see it miles before we drove into it.

July 067

It was a huge rain storm but it only lasted for about 15 mins.

July 075

July 076

Then there was sun again driving into Regina.

July 077

Once we reached our hotel we found out we had a beautiful room with a king sized bed and lots of space.

July 090

July 083

Then we showered and headed out to downtown Regina.

Being from the Maritimes we figured the best way to celebrate being in the prairies was to go to Red Lobster – I know, I know.

We both got the Shrimp Trio.

July 102

I got mine with potatoes and Matt got fries.

It was good but huge. After I finished I still had tons left on my plate.

July 103

After dinner we decided to get cultured and we hit up the Art Gallery.

July 106

Since we can’t take pictures inside I can’t show you all the wonderful art we saw.

After that we headed back to the hotel for a good night’s sleep before our last day on the road.

ACCRT day 7 is pretty uneventful. This was the worst day of my stomach flu and I didn’t eat much, slept most of the trip and didn’t take any pictures.

Most of my food intake for the day included popsicles and chicken soup when we arrived in Calgary. It was about and 7 hour drive and it couldn’t happen quick enough. I was tired of the prairies, tired of the car and tired of eating out. All I wanted was our new apartment, our stuff back and some real, cooked food.

We arrived in Calgary 5pm local time, met with our landlord to see the apartment, emptied our car, when for a quick visit with my step-brother and his family and made a trip to the grocery store.

We were tired and happy to finally be in our new home.

That’s all the blogging I’m going to do for today but tomorrow will be exciting. I’ll post some pictures of our new apartment and I have my first giveaway coming up.

I’m currently sitting here while the movers unpack out stuff so there’s lots to show you and blog about. As well, I’m very excited to get back to a healthy lifestyle which includes some yummy eats and my first trip to the gym here in Calgary.

I’ll leave you with one more kitty pictures. This is during Day 6 when Charlie decided he would jam himself in between my seat and the car door.
