The Return of Yoga

No blogging yesterday but I did have lots yummy eats and of course “The Return of Yoga”.

I woke up a little late yesterday so I didn’t want too much for breakfast since I was meeting the husband for an early lunch. While getting ready I had a piece of ancient grain toast topped with a slice of laughing cow cheese.

I was heading downtown to meet Matt for an early lunch but ended up arriving a little earlier then expected so I spent some time wondering around and looking in a few shops. I haven’t spend too much time in downtown since arriving in Calgary. I’ve driven down a few times to pick up Matt but not walking around. It was nice to get out and see some places.

After I met up with Matt for lunch we headed to the food court near his building. I wanted something relatively healthy in the mass of fast food joints so I choose Extreme Pita. I went with a grilled chicken pita with lettuce, cucumber, pineapple and cheese. It was delicious! I also got a drink from Jugo Juice. I went with Summer Strawberry. This has strawberries, peaches, apple juice and cranberry juice. All in all, it was a healthy, tasty lunch for a food court lunch.

After Matt headed back to work I got in the car and did a little exploring of the city. It was fun to see different parts of the city that I haven’t seen before. Then I headed home to get ready for yoga.

Since moving to Calgary I haven’t done any yoga. There are so yoga studios here that I want to try. Most of them offer an introductory week offer to try the studio out. First up: Try-Yoga Calgary.

According to their website: Try-Yoga Calgary is a hot yoga studio that offers hot yoga, yoga-core, advanced yoga, karma classes, family yoga, pre and post natal yoga and much more.

After browsing their website I found out that they have both hot and regular yoga and many other classes as well. They also offer great rates and a great introductory offer of two week of unlimited yoga for 30 dollars. They are also located 5 mins from my place.

My first class was going to be a Tri-Hot class: The beautiful class is practiced in a heated room allowing students to work with their flexibility, strength and balance, while the heat warms the muscles and helps to flush toxins from the body.

The class was awesome! Our instructor pushed us but also gave lots of alternatives to make it easier or more difficult so that no matter what level your at you would be able to participate. The room was also hot but not so hot that you couldn’t actually enjoy your practice. I can’t wait to go back today to try another class.

Before heading to yoga I wanted something light so I snacked on a banana with some dark chocolate dreams pb.

September 001

After yoga I went to pick Matt up from the office. I drank some coconut water while driving.

Once I got home it was time for dinner. Dinner started with a huge salad with lots of veggies: spinach, red, green and yellow peppers, cucumber, carrots, broccoli and snow peas along with some blueberries on top.

September 003

I topped the salad with some chicken and pineapple that I had set to marinate earlier in the day (marinade: soy sauce, honey, rice vinegar and fresh ginger). I cooked the chicken in the oven for 20 mins then topped the salad with a couple of pieces.

September 004

Finally I served some roasted baby potatoes along side it (red, yellow and purple potatoes cooked in the oven for 30 mins with garlic powder, onion salt, rosemary, basil and thyme).

September 006

Served together.

September 005

The salad was huge. I was able to finish mine along with a little of the husbands. I also finished most of the potatoes but just couldn’t finish the chicken.

Job Update: So I was suppose to hear this morning if I got the job I had been worried about during the last post. It’s now 11:35 and I still haven’t heard anything yet so I guess all the stress I was causing myself was for nothing. Now it’s time to wait and move on to the next job and hopefully I’ll hear something soon from one of the other two school boards that I’m still waiting to hear from.

Finally, Happy September 1st Everyone! Can you believe it’s September already? This summer was crazy, moving, job hunting and everything else but I love fall so I’m ready to bring out the sweaters and enjoy the cool crisp air.

Running in the Snow and Rain

Ahhhh…the weekend is just about over. It’s 8:30 on Sunday evening and just about to go to bed before starting a new work day tomorrow.

Here’s a quick recap of my weekend.

Saturday started with Oatmeal. In the pot: 2/3 cup of oats, 2 tbsp of flaxmeal, 1 1/2 c of UCAB (Unsweetened Chocolate Almond Breeze), and 2 tsp of vanilla extract. This served two.

April 006

Topped with 1/2 a banana, a spash of UCAB and a scoop of white chocolate wonderful pb.

April 008

After breakfast I did a little running around by myself trying to find some of Prairie Natural Lean Whey. I checked Planet Organic, GNC and The Healthy Bug. All listed on their website saying that they carry their products. They all do just not the lean whey. Very frustrating. I am looking for something that is low in calories but high in protein. After I checked Halifax I picked up Matt and we had some errands to do across the bridge at Mic Mac so I decided to check GNC there too. No luck. There’s a store in Bedford that lists their products so I’m going to check them out this week. Maybe I’ll luck out.

We also grabbed lunch at the mall too. We decided to try to do as healthy a lunch as you can get in the food court and went with Jugo Juice. I got the Greek Veggie Wrap: hummus, zucchini, green peppers and red onion all in a whole wheat wrap.

 April 011

Along with a mini smoothie: Mini Mango – mango, OJ and tropical nector.

April 009

I’m very proud of this meal for two reasons. First, I wanted chinese as soon as we walked in but I opted for the healthy choice and second I am not usually up to trying new things. I’d never had hummus in a wrap or a wrap/sandwich without meat and I really enjoyed it. Yay!

After lunch Matt and I got some groceries and then I dropped him off back at home and I decided to do some shopping. I picked up two dresses for the summer. I can’t wait until it gets nicer out so I’m able to wear some of them. I’ll post pics this week.

By the time I got home I was tired and hungry so we grabbed some pizza and sat on the couch and wached the first movie and a half of Lord of the Rings – Matt just bought them on Blue Ray and he couldn’t want to see how good they looked.

Breakfast this morning was whole wheat French Toast – 2 eggs, 1 c of UVAB (unsweetened vanilla almond breeze) and 1 tbsp of cinnamon. Topped with peaches and maple syrup.

April 013

Since we got up so late we didn’t eat breakfast until about 11:30. I spend most of the rest of the early afternoon catching up on Vampire Diaries and Gossip Girl. Around 2 I was hungry again. I boiled some progries and served with carrots and cucumber. Since I am out of greek yogurt I had some light caesar dressing for dipping.

April 020

After lunch I was getting restless and although it looked like this outside…

April 029

April 024

I talked Matt into going for a run with me. We did Week 3 of C25K. Run for 90 secs, walk for 90 sec, run for 3 mins, walk for 3 mins – times two. By the time we got back we were freezing and wet but I felt great.

April 027

April 028

That’s water from the rain on Matt’s shirt and my pants. I’m so glad we got out even if it was a little nuts. After my shower I had a green smoothie to tide me over until dinner. In the blender: 2 huge handful of organic spinach, 1 organic banana, 2 tbsp of flaxmeal, 1 c of UVAB and ice. Yum!

April 032

I also snacked on some of Stacy’s Pita Chips.

April 033

I did a little cleaning and made some more granola bars. I used my recipe from before except I used syrup instead of honey (I find they hold together better that way.

April 037

In the pan to head into the freezer

April 039

Dinner was a variation on a picture I found on Heather’s (Hungry Pants) blog the other day: Choices.

Chicken Teriyaki Bowl:

  • 3 boneless, skinless chicken breasts
  • broccoli
  • pineapple
  • brown rice
  • teriyaki sauce
April 042

Cut the chicken into small pieces and cook in wok.

April 043

Add broccoli and cook for 3-4 mins and then add pineapple and cook for another 1 min. Then add rice and sauce and cook for 3-5 mins until everything is mixed well.

 April 045

Serve in bowl with nice cold glass of milk.

April 047

Yummy and easy.

Now I’m going to enjoy my evening with my husband and relax.

Night all!
