My Water and Yoga Challenge

Sorry for the lack of posting the past couple of days. Things have been crazy around here (I’ll post a little more about that tomorrow) and I’ve been spending some quality time with the hubby.

So I thought I’d do a little different post tonight. After getting back the gym this week I have been doing some thinking about some other things I really want to work on regarding my health. I have come up with two things:

  1. Water – I haven’t been doing very good with drinking water lately.
  2. Yoga – I really want to get back into yoga – I always feel so great after a class.

Drinking Water

Lately I haven’t been doing a very good job with my water. I maybe get a liter of water a day. I have been getting lazy – especially at school and I really want to focus on getting at least 2 liters of water a day.

So I’m going to steal some hastags from Jaime - #waterlogged and Diana - #projecthydrate to remind myself throughout the day to fill up my water bottle. If you see me on twitter I’d love your help as well. Just remind me with one or both of the above hastags. I’d really appreciate the help.

We all know that we should drink at least 8 cups of water a day but here are some of the reasons and benefits of drinking water:

  • Improves Skin
  • Better Exercise
  • Better Productivity at Work (I have lots to do before summer vacation so the more productive I can be the better)
  • Lose Weight
  • Helps to Cure Headaches
  • Improves Mood
  • Helps to Relieve Fatigue (we all know when we only have a couple hours left of the day a glass of nice cold water can help get you through that last little bit)
  • Helps to Relieves Cramps
  • Less Likely to get Sick/Feel Healthier

Knowing all of these benefits how I could not be drinking lots and lots of water? If anyone else wants to partake in increasing your water intake you can leave a comment below or just tweet using one of the hastags above.

Yoga

I also want to get back into yoga again. After reading all month about Kate’s and Tina’s Yoga Pose May it really got me inspired to get back into yoga.

I haven’t had much chance to go to any yoga classes so what I have decided to do is to try to do at least 20-30 mins of yoga at home 3-4 times a week. I have done enough yoga classes to be able to do some yoga by myself a few times a week when I can’t make it to a class.

I started this yesterday and it was great. I came home from work, rolled out my mat and enjoyed some me time for 25 mins.

For anyone interested some benefits of yoga are:

  • Increasing Flexibility
  • Toning of Muscles
  • Massaging Organs in the Body
  • Body Detox
  • Improving Mood
  • Decreases Anxiety and Depression
  • Improve Concentration, Memory and Attention
  • Sleep Improves
  • Improves Balance
  • Helps to Improve Self-Confidence and Self-Assurance
  • Pain Decreases

The last benefit is one of the reasons I really interested in yoga right now. I’ve been having problems with my shoulder lately. It has been seizing up and cramping a lot and although I’m booking a massage next week I am looking for an everyday cure/relief and I’m hoping yoga can help.

If anyone else is interested in doing yoga with me leave a comment below. Also, I won’t claim to be a yoga expert but I’ve done quite a few classes so I can give some poses to focus on each week if anyone is interested. Please just let me know.

I’ll be back tomorrow with a recap of my eats and exercise lately. I hope everyone is enjoying their Friday night.

GO HAWKS GO!
